An Ode to Crunch

It's a few months in to my crunchy journey and I really feel like I'm making a difference in my life and my family's life. I tip my hat to the leaders in this industry who research everything under the sun, new companies that were created to make our lives cleaner, greener and safer, the crunchy friends I have in person (shout out to Ruchika Kumar and her wonderful work in sustainable textiles) and online, and most of all, my husband for being the biggest supporter of my blog and our new lifestyle, even when I seem a little crazy!

In tribute to all of us leading the crunchy life when it's so much easier just to be mainstream:

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

["Think Different" is an advertising slogan created for Apple Computer in 1997 by the Los Angeles office of advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day.]

The world will change for the better by each of us doing our part. Our children will have a brighter future because of our actions. I have to believe it and I have to live it.

Hope you all have a wonderful new year!

Just a taste...

A day, a new dawn.

I've entitled this blog "Taste of Crunch" because I've started my journey towards becoming "crunchy". What exactly is "crunchy"?

From Urban Dictionary:

crunchy
Adjective. Used to describe persons who have adjusted or altered their lifestyle for environmental reasons. Crunchy persons tend to be politically strongly left-leaning and may be additionally but not exclusively categorized as vegetarians, vegans, eco-tarians, conservationists, environmentalists, neo-hippies, tree huggers, nature enthusiasts, etc. Also used to describe establishments where alternative foods and products are sold, i.e. natural food stores. Modified derivative of granola.

Now while I may not be all of those descriptions (nor do I want to be all of these things), I've defintely started the process of greening my life. This blog will detail my efforts as well as provide an audience to hold myself accountable by.

The catalyst for such efforts is my son, AI. He was born in January 2010 and since then, I've been branded psycho mom by my near and dear friends. Anything that comes near him, near me, near our home, near our food has been scrutinized. It's amazing how much a child can change you! (And it's insane how much time and effort it takes to protect your child from harsh chemicals, preservatives, parabens, oh I could keep going...)

So, add me to your follow list and comment away!
